Collaborative project launched in L.A.

Capacity Collaborative member Frieda C. Fox Foundation is expanding Education By Nature, an innovative approach in coordinating nonprofits and funders.

Education by Nature (ExN) is a collaborative education model, enabling multiple nonprofit service providers to reach their schools and communities in a coordinated way.  The Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation and Environmental Volunteers (the originator of the model) together spearheaded this innovation in the Bay Area, and other local funders have joined in to support key aspects of the program, such as subsidizing the transportation costs of the schools.

Fox is now launching this idea in the main Los Angeles school district, with local nonprofit Children's Nature Institute as the coordinating agency.  LA schools and their administrators, teachers, and students, will benefit from coordinated, standards-based curriculum, improving educational depth and outcomes. Online enrollment simplifies registration for multiple experiences in classrooms and on field trips.  Fellow Capacity Collaborative member Consulting Within Reach is partnering with Fox to build out this online component.

The Fox Foundation is looking for other funders and partner agencies in LA to join in on this cost effective and impactful idea.  Another replication effort in Hawaii is underway as well. For more information, contact Fox Foundation Executive Director Dana Marcus.
